Overall, Pomeranian dogs are very well-mannered animals that are easy to get along with and to take care of.
Pomeranian dogs, also referred to as poms, are pretty small in size compared to other dog breeds. They have tiny little bodies that are covered with a ton of fur, mainly around their necks where it kind of balloons like a male lion. They are hardly ferocious though, in fact, they are normally very well-mannered, gentle animals. Potty Training Pomeranian DogsPomeranian dogs are potty trained just like most other dog breeds. The use of puppy pads or newspaper is a great way to potty train them. Pomeranians need to be looked over after they go potty because feces can sometimes get caught up in their back fur if it is quite long. To prevent any messes in the fur, keep their fur trimmed up back around their rear. Some Pomeranian dog owners also choose to train their puppy to go to the bathroom in a litter box since they are such small dogs. At any rate, be sure to reward them with a treat after they go potty to ensure the same behavior in the future. Feeding Pomeranian DogsPomeranians do not need any sort of special diet. Puppy food is perfect for when they're young and then moving up to adult dog food as they get older will be sufficient. Feeding them anything other than dog food or dog treats should be avoided. Pomeranian Fur CarePomeranians have beautiful, silky fur. It's important that they get bathed regularly using a mild soap and lukewarm water - especially if they get feces tangled up in their fur. After bathing, blow dry their fur using the lowest heat setting and comb through the fur as it's being dried. This helps to keep their fur silky and tangle free. Again, to prevent feces from getting onto their fur, have their backside trimmed up regularly. Temperament of Pomeranian DogsGenerally speaking, Pomeranians are gentle dogs who crave attention and love to explore. They love to sit on laps and be spoken to and petted. They also like to do their own thing at times and because of their size, it's imperative that they are constantly looked after, especially around open doors. Once they get outside they may be hard to track because they will be able to fit through some fences and other tiny gaps, spaces or areas. Pomeranian dogs are great family pets. They don't always get along with small children, so if there are small children in the house, be sure they learn to leave the dog alone or they may get nipped at. Pomeranians won't necessarily bite; they may, but they will definitely nip if they feel threatened.
